Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, when first dissolved in solvents, in this case a delightful ethanol solvent known as Mezcal, produces gorgeous forms and compositions when allowed to recrystallize on a microscope slides. When illuminated with crossed polarizing filters, the microscopic features of the crystals can be highlighted in arresting ways. The entire image can rest on the side of a lentil.
